Discovering the True Magic of Code #hourofcode ##CSEdWeek
Touch Pianist is a musical toy / instrument that allows the user to perform hard-to-play classical piano music favorites (from composers like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Satie, Debussy to name a few) just by tapping the rhythm of the piece’s particular sound events on a computer keyboard or a touch screen. It also provides live visualisation of the pieces that are being performed. There is no score keeping, the user is free to perform the music in any way they wish. The premise is that it is really fun to perform a piece you know well, exactly like you feel it with so little effort.
The app works in a web-browser (controlled by the computer keyboard) and it also has an iOS version (controlled by the touch screen). Touch screen controls have more expression capabilities since the user can actually choose to play the notes louder or softer by controlling the location of their touches on the screen. The browser version works best with Google Chrome. Also runs well with Safari and Firefox. Internet Explorer is not supported since it doesn’t support WebAudio and TouchPianist relies on (made possible in the browser by) WebAudio. The iOS version is free with IAPs for additional pieces and is compatible with iOS v7 and up.
